Euro banknotes are about to undergo a major overhaul, with a completely new design expected in 2024

In 2024, euro banknotes will undergo a comprehensive reform. At that time, the current two versions of euro banknotes will gradually exit the circulation field, and citizens holding large amounts of cash need to prepare in advance. In the 20 years since the birth of the euro, its paper currency version has undergone a generational change. The current version of the pattern is themed around arches, windows, and bridges. Although it to some extent harmonizes the cultural differences among the 19 member states of the eurozone, overall, the pattern appears more traditional and lacks vitality.

The second edition of Euro banknotes has no significant differences in pattern compared to the first edition, only adding several anti-counterfeiting measures. Unfortunately, the purple banknote with a face value of 500 euros was not retained in the new version due to its association with negative impressions such as "money laundering".

The European Central Bank recently announced that it is time for a comprehensive review of the exterior design of the euro. They hope that the new version of euro banknotes can better reflect the spirit of European solidarity and bring confidence and support to Europeans during times of crisis. To this end, the European Central Bank plans to incorporate portraits or iconic buildings of well-known European figures in the new design, while ensuring unique and vibrant patterns to gain widespread recognition from all Europeans, especially the younger generation.

The European Central Bank has formed a special team to start the preliminary work on the design of the new version of euro banknotes. The primary task of the team is to solicit opinions and suggestions from the Eurozone public on the theme design of the new banknotes. At present, this work is being carried out in an orderly manner and has received numerous creative and imaginative ideas from all parties, with rich and colorful content

After collecting a wide range of opinions and suggestions, the expert group will compile and submit a list of topics. The European Central Bank will further solicit public opinions based on this list through a "referendum like" polling method. At the same time, the European Central Bank will also hold a design competition to solicit ideas from around the world. It is expected that in 2024, after multiple rounds of selection, the winning pattern will be determined and the printing work for the third edition of the Euro will be launched accordingly.

Industry experts point out that the redesign of Euro banknotes this time will be the first in 20 years, not only aimed at enhancing anti-counterfeiting functions, but also bringing about a revolutionary change in the pattern. It is noteworthy that the final decision on the pattern will be jointly made by every European citizen.

In fact, before the official introduction of the euro, the 19 member states of the eurozone had already submitted numerous design drafts. Now, experts have suggested that a few of these past designs can be selected as references for the redesign of the euro banknotes.

Even by modern aesthetic standards, these design patterns still appear quite avant-garde. They cover many elements such as reliefs, animals, and characters, while incorporating abstract designs such as environmental protection, language symbols, and geometric patterns. Some are even highly creative

So, is it possible for these classic designs to be selected for the third edition of Euro banknotes? This is indeed a suspense worth looking forward to.
