Syria's new banknote, replacing the Assad family portrait with olive and rose motifs, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Syrian transitional President Ahmed Salah has launched a new version of the banknote to replace the old banknote bearing the portrait of leader Bashar al-Assad and his family members, who was overthrown in December 2024.
Previously, the portrait of Bashar al-Assad was printed on the 2,000-denomination banknote, and the portrait of his father Hafez al-Assad appeared on the 1,000-denomination banknote. SANA reported that the new version of the Syrian banknote was changed to Damascus roses, wheat, olives, citrus and other crops. The news agency noted that the new Syrian government is committed to rebuilding the economy after more than a decade of war and sanctions, and one of the main tasks of the authorities is to increase the value of the Syrian pound.
