A shop owner in Dongguan was given 15 notes with same serial number, HD90268566, on January 1st, 2009. The fakes are hard to identify with the naked eye. Similar notes have also been found in other places of China.

The official people of banks said these fake notes were made by combining partially genuine and counterfeit notes, and cannot be verified by currency detector machines. Because of this, the bank warns that money from ATMs may be fake. The relative department also received many recent calls saying fake CNY100 notes whose serial number begins with HD90 and HB90 are being used in taxis or night markets.
